Karl Valentin -a chief man of
cinema, and writer of theatrical and cinema plays, articles, and radio texts
left his work as a carpenter and became one of the most original artists of
the 20th century. His field of action was with himself being the main
interpreter of his plays, at monologues, dialogues and scenes that lasted
between 20-40 minutes, and presented the beloved but helpless daily little
man who tries to keep up with the confusing everyday life; uncovering also
his stupidity and his contradictions.
Karl Valentin loved making fun
of horror and sarcasm everyday people and characters of his hometown,
Munich. His heroes were grotesque figures and most of his plays took place
at public places, establishing what we now call "roof theatre" .
